Dagne Dover Micah Crossbody Overview

Dagne Dover dropped a new bag silhouette during their FW19 release—the Micah Crossbody! The seasonal red color "Siren" has already sold out for good according to the website, but the core colors are just as nice. The video contains information about the bag's layout, size comparisons with the XS/S Landons and Medium Andra, DD wallet fit tests, a few "modeling" shots, and an awkward voiceover from yours truly. 🙈 The Micah Crossbody retails for $95.

  • Micah Crossbody: ¾” L x 3” W 7” H
  • XS Landon: 9” L ¾” W 6.25” H (for comparison)
  • M Andra: 9 ½” L 3 ½” W x 6 ¾” H (for comparison)

Also: Dagne Dover has a BEAUTIFUL promo video for this bag, and it's what convinced me I neeeeeeded one in Heather Gray.

Dagne Dover Small Wade Diaper Tote: A Brief Review

In case you missed the news, Dagne Dover released a Baby Capsule this month! It includes three new styles—the Wade Tote (available in size small and large), the Indi Backpack, and the Joey changing kit. I don't have kids yet, but I didn't let that stop me from ordering a Small Wade in Dark Moss. The collection sold out in record time! While I can't speak to the Small Wade's ease of use as a diaper bag, I hope I can still provide some helpful information before the collection is restocked next week. (And a heads up: if you're a first-time Dagne Dover customer, consider clicking here for a $20 off discount on orders $100+!)

Small Wade Diaper Tote: 13.75” L x 5.25” W x 9.5” H
Large Wade Diaper Tote: 16.25” L x 6” W x 12” H

The Wade Diaper Tote comes with a small Scout Pouch, two key leashes, two stroller attachments, a crossbody strap, a shoe bag, a water bottle holder, and a mini changing pad. One of the outside pockets is designed to hold baby wipes, but is also handy for things like sunglasses and charging cables. The zipper pulls lengths are generous, and there are ample interior pockets, all of which are sized to fit Dagne Dover's smaller wallet items (like the Slim Wallet/Accordion Travel Wallet). There's a luggage sleeve on the back as well as a cell phone slip pocket.

Two things that sold me on the Wade right away were its structured silhouette and the nearly 6" bag depth. I received it earlier this week and have already used it for an overnight hospital stay (as a visitor), running errands, and a multi-mile walk. So far so good, although I would recommend keeping your wallet in one of the pockets closest to where the water bottle holder is snapped—attempting to re-zip the bag one-handed after it's been completely unzipped is a challenge!

Here's the Small Wade in relation to other small Dagne Dover bags.

Here's how some of Dagne Dover's small wallets and pouches fit into the Small Wade.

  • Too large: Large Elle Clutch, XL Scout/Parker Pouches
  • Fits, but takes up most of the space: Large Lola, XL Hunter, Medium Andra
  • My 12" MacBook is just a little too big to fit in the tablet sleeve, but it does fit in the body of the bag

Dagne Dover 15" Tote Review (Legend Tote Predecessor)

Let's begin with a little backstory on the discontinued 15" Totes (taken from my "Tote Size Guide")!

The 15" Tote was Dagne Dover's staple piece along with the original clutch wallet until the introduction of the Mini Tote in Spring 2014. It is named not necessarily for its overall width (approximately 18.5" inches at the widest point), but for the maximum laptop size the interior laptop sleeve can accommodate (15"). The key difference visually between the 13" Tote and the 15" tote is that the 13" Tote's handles can be easily folded down, whereas the 15" Tote's handles are rigid and stand straight up. The Tote was re-designed early on to be lighter and to fix various issues that arose with the handles. The most recent re-designed version, now called the Legend Tote, has slightly different dimensions than the Totes of this size that were released prior to March 2nd, 2017.
  • 15" Tote Specs: 15" L (at smallest point) x 12" H x 7" W, 8" handle drop, 3.4lb weight
  • Legend Tote Specs: 14 ¾" L x 11 ½" H x 7" W, 9" handle drop, 2.9lb weight

While I usually prefer Dagne Dover’s leather items over their larger coated canvas totes, I’ve found myself using my 15" Tote often this year. My parents live a few hours away, and it seems to be the perfect size for the car trip and an overnight stay with them. Although a Large Allyn or Landon could also work for this purpose, the Landons don’t have as much laptop padding (I take my 15” work laptop with me), and I’ve found the Large Allyn is too large and has a tendency to slouch/tip over.

Pictured with XS Landon, S Hunter, Accordion Travel Wallet, and S/L Scout Pouches

One great thing about the 15" Tote is that you can fit a smaller purse inside with room to spare. I usually pack either a Small Andra or an XS Landon along with my 15” laptop, a thin folder, a Small Hunter full of toiletries, and a couple of Scout pouches for chargers and other odds and ends (plus an extra shirt or pair of leggings if needed). The fact that the main compartment zips up is also a plus.

  • Although it hasn't happened to me yet with these bags, I have heard from numerous people that the larger coated canvas bags tend to develop a slouch over time—sometimes, it's severe. I suspect it's happening to the re-designed Legends in particular, which contain less coated canvas material in the interior. Stuffing the bag with lightweight filler material while not in use could potentially help the bag retain its shape.

Color comparison: Lola/Slim Wallet in Graphite, 15" Tote in Steel Gray (I think!), Large Allyn in Slate, Ava in Steel Gray

I purchased this bag second-hand with minimal information, so I had trouble correctly identifying its color for the longest time. I assumed it was Graphite at first, but I later bought a Graphite Slim Wallet and realized that definitely wasn't right! I then figured it must be Slate due to its slight blue tint, but it turns out I was wrong about that too. The closest color match is actually Steel Gray—and after comparing the interior materials to my 15" Tote in Linen, I discovered my assumption that this was a Legend tote was also inaccurate! (Steel Gray came out a season or two before the coated canvas bags were rebranded/redesigned.) Oof.

Pictured with the Large Ryan Laptop Bag in Clay Red (SS19)

The only downside I’ve found is that because the bag is so boxy and rigid, it makes it a bit awkward to lug around in stores—it juts out so much that I worry I’ll knock over or break something! I recently ordered a Large Ryan Laptop Bag to try out in place of the 15" Tote, and although the compartments are great and it's a wonderfully functional bag, I'm going to sell the Ryan because the silhouette/aesthetic is not for me. (The newly-released large Wade diaper bag might do the trick; the width is more substantial and the structured silhouette appeals to me as well!)

  • Large Ryan Dimensions: 16” L  x 12.25” H 2.5” W
  • Large Wade Dimensions (not pictured): 16.25” L x 12” H x  6” W

Fun fact: my very first Dagne Dover bag was a 15” Tote in Linen.  I'll admit I haven’t used it in years, but I won't part with it anytime soon—it’s too special to me. I’ll never forget how awe-struck I felt when I saw it in person for the first time. Based on the state of my Dagne-filled house right now, I'd say it clearly made an impression. 🙈

Dagne Dover Bag Comparisons: Extra Small Edition

I thought it might be helpful to compare the relative sizes of Dagne Dover's bags, so I've sorted all of their shoulder/crossbody bags into five categories. This "Extra Small" category consists of bags that measure less than 10" on their longest side.  (I hope to photograph and publish the Small - Extra Large categories over the next couple of months—keep an eye out for those.) I hope these dimension comparisons and side-by-side photos will help you better gauge the sizes of Dagne Dover's other extra-small bag designs!

  • S Andra: 8” L x 2” W x 5.25” H
  • Clutch Wallet: 8.5” L x 5.5” H
  • Tiny Tote: 7” L x 3.4” W x 6.75” H
  • Petite Tote: 8” L x 3.75” W x 7.25” H
  • M Andra: 9.5” L x 3.5” W x 6.75” H
  • Ace Fanny: 9.25” L x 2.75” W x 5.5” H
  • XS Landon: 9” L x 4.75” W x 6.25” H

I used an XS Landon in Clay Red, a Petite Tote in Dagne Blue (discontinued), a Tiny Tote in Champagne (discontinued), two Original Clutch Wallets (discontinued) in Champagne and Cork, a Small Andra in Sienna (discontinued), a Medium Andra in Bone (discontinued), and an Ace Fanny Pack in Dark Moss for the pictures in this post.

Dagne Dover Ace Fanny Pack Review

I can't believe I haven't posted about the Ace Fanny Pack yet! I currently own this style in four colors/patterns—Shearling, Dusk Camo, Dune, and Dark Moss—and I've used them on and off for around seven months for outings such as:

  • Walking/Attempting to Jog
  • Errands (slung over shoulder)
  • Art Exhibits
  • Vet Visits (especially helpful for wrangling multiple animals)

For outings, I’m able to fit my Travel Wallet, a reusable BAGGU bag, my keys, and even my iPhone inside the Ace Fanny. For walks around the neighborhood, I take a small water bottle, a reusable bag, and my keys; while this combo makes the pack look quite lumpy, it gets the job done. (My phone stays in my hand because I play Pokémon GO while I walk. 🙈)

There are a variety of ways to wear this bag, which is great. I tend to either sling it over my shoulder (the way my Mom is wearing it in the above picture) or wear it in the traditional fanny pack style, but I'd recommend checking out Dagne Dover's Instagram for additional styling ideas.

Packed with a BAGGU, water bottle, and keys (hence the lumpiness)

One aspect of the Ace Fanny Pack that I don’t quite ‘get’ is the vertical exterior slip pocket. A standard iPhone technically fits but sticks out substantially, and I’m not sure I would trust it to hold any important cards in place. A horizontal pocket the size of a standard iPhone (perhaps with some kind of closure mechanism) might have made more sense to me. If you have any insights about the purpose of this pocket, let me know...

My first Ace Fanny was actually this fuzzy Shearling guy from FW18. I immediately had a vision for him and couldn’t resist! I used 13mm doll eyes I had on hand along with strong magnets to create this look. I have to be careful around magnetic surfaces lest the eyes jump on a Target cart again, so I tend to save this one for fun/artsy outings rather than for running errands.

Sweet dreams aren't made of this

If you’re a light packer who likes taking walks or has days where being hands-free would make your life easier, I think an Ace Fanny Pack would be a great option to have in your collection. They retail for $85, but keep an eye on the Sale page—you can usually find last-season colors for less!
